Freshmen
Jessica Barfield (Lynwood HS) and
Karen
Guravska (El Dorado HS)
both competed for the Cerritos College women's track
and field team at the Southern California Heptathlon
Championships on Tuesday and Wednesday at Moorpark
College. Although she tied for first in one event
and placed second in another,
Guravska did not receive a total score
because she didn't complete two of the events. As
for Barfield, she came in 10th place overall with
3726 points. Neither will advance to the state
championships.
Guravska, who tied for first place in the
high jump at 5' 2", also placed second in the shot
put with a throw of 34' 6". However, she did not
turn in a time in the 800 meters and a distance in
the javelin.
Guravska also placed eighth in the long jump
at 15' 9". As for Barfield, her best finishes
were in the javelin (96' 1/2"), where she came in
fourth place, while she also finished fourth in the
shot put (32' 2"), fourth in the long jump (16' 4
3/4"), sixth in the 200 meters (27.11) and eighth
the 110-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of
15.81.
