Looking to
repeat as the state champions, the Cerritos
College women's tennis team will start their
trek on Tuesday when they compete in the South
Coast Conference Preliminaries, which will be
held at Mt. San Antonio College. Several members
of the Falcon team competed in the VS Athletics
Beach Invitational, which was hosted by Cal
State Long Beach and held at Cerritos College
over the weekend.
Freshman
sprinter
Cyntrail Pierce (Compton HS)
excelled, as she placed third in the 200 meters
with a time of 25.36 and also ran a leg of the
team's 400-meter relay team that came in sixth
place. Posting a time of 48.31, Pierce was
joined by sophomores
Michella Crabtree (Cabrillo HS)
and
Jessica Barfield (Lynwood HS),
along with freshman
Tamika Randolph (Inglewood HS).
The majority
of the team's entries were in field events, with
sophomore
Rachel
Butler (Calvary Chapel HS)
placing the highest, as she came in 15th in the
javelin with a toss that went 36.54 meters.
Sophomore teammate
Karen Guravska (El Dorado HS)
was right behind in 16th place at 32.26 meters.
As for freshman
Stephanie Aliimatafitafi (Paramount
HS), she came in 21st place in the shot put
at 12.77 meters, while freshman
Arianna
Lugo (Los Altos HS) placed
17th in the hammer throw, as her best toss went
47.52 meters. In the pole vault, freshman
Aundrea Stovall (Lynwood HS)
tied for 19th place.
