The Cerritos
College women's track and field showed their
strength in numbers on Sunday at the USC
Invitational, which was held at Koler Stadium-Cormwell
Field. The Falcons loaded the throwing events with
athletes, while several had outstanding
performances, as they topped their pervious best
distances. After such a strong showing, the Falcons
will now return home for a four-team meet on Friday
at noon. Joining Cerritos will be Saddleback
College, El Camino College and Orange Coast College.
Freshman thrower
Stephanie Aliimatafitafi (Paramount
HS) placed second in the hammer throw with a
distance of 149' 8", which is now the second-longest
distance in school history. She had the previous
second-best distance of 144' 2". Joining her in the
event by coming in third place was sophomore
Whitney
Ashley (J.W. North HS), who
turned in a throw of 146' 6", which beats her
pervious best throw of 143' 10", which was the
third-best throw in school history. The Falcons also
had entries that finished in sixth, seventh and
eighth place.
In the shot put,
Aliimatafitafi came in second place at 44' 8", while
Ashley (41' 1/2") finished in fourth place. Joining
them was sophomore
Aunjanae Stovall (Lynwood HS),
who came in fifth place at 39' 8", while freshman
Maria Savea (Green Valley (NV) HS)
placed sixth at 39' 3 3/4". Savea won the javelin
with a throw of 109' 9", with sophomore
Jessica
Barfield (Lynwood HS) placing
third and 99' 11", while freshman
Aundrea Stovall (Lynwood HS)
was fourth at 94' 4".
School-record
holder in the triple jump, Barfield placed second on
Sunday with a jump of 39' 8 1/2", while freshman
Cyntrail Pierce (Compton HS)
came in second place in the long jump at 18' 1".
The quartet of
sophomore Michella Crabtree (Cabrillo
HS), Pierce, Barfield and freshman
Blair Allen
(Lynwood HS) turned in a time of 48.64 in
the 400-meter relay race, which put them in fourth
place.
