The Cerritos
College women's track and field team won 11 of
the 18 events in a four-team non-conference meet
at Falcon Stadium on Friday. The Falcons
compiled 219 team points and defeated El Camino
College (159 points), Palomar College (109) and
Saddleback College (60) to put their season
record at 3-0. The team will now travel to
Moorpark College next Saturday for a noon
non-conference meet.
Leading the
way for the team was a trio of athletes who each
won two events. In the running events, freshman
Alison Bartsoch (Squalicum (WA)
HS) won both the 800 meters and 1500
meters, while sophomore
Jessica Barfield (Lynwood HS)
captured the 200 meters. Barfield also won the
triple jump, while freshman
Aundrea Stovall (Lynwood HS)
captured both the high jump and pole vault.
Winning single events were freshman sprinter
Cyntrail Pierce (Compton HS),
sophomore hurdler
Brandi
McCall (Norwalk HS) in the
100-meter IH, while sophomores
Rachel
Butler (Calvary Chapel HS)
and
Michella Crabtree (Cabrillo HS)
won the javelin and long jump, respectively.
Freshman thrower
Arianna
Lugo (Los Altos HS) won
the hammer throw, with the 400-meter relay team
finishing in first place.
As for
Bartsoch, she posted a time of 2:23.25 in the
800 meters, with sophomore teammate
Tawny
Vilchis (Long Beach Poly HS)
placing fourth in 2:31.33. In the 1500 meters,
Bartsoch beat out all of her competition with a
time of 4:56.80. Barfield registered a time of
25.84 in the 200 meters, just beating out
sophomore teammate
Erin Straughter (Valencia HS),
who came in second place in 26.76. Barfield also
came in second place in the 100 meters (12.49)
behind Pierce, who turned in a time of 12.37. In
the triple jump, Barfield posted a leap of 38'
3", while teammates Stovall (34' 6") and McCall
(33' 7), were second and third, respectively. In
the long jump that Crabtree won with a distance
of 15' 7", Barfield came in fourth place and was
second in the javelin (105' 3) behind Butler's
110' 1".
Stovall also
collected her share of points for the Falcons
with her win in the high jump (5' 0") and pole
vault (10' 4) with her second place in the
triple jump and third place in the javelin (97'
3) and third place time of 17.52 in the
100-meter IH. McCall won the event with a time
of 16.55.
In the
throwing events, Lugo turned in the second best
hammer throw in school history with a toss of
155' 9". Freshman
Stephanie Aliimatafitafi (Paramount
HS) finished second in the shot put at 43'
9", while sophomore teammate
Whitney Ashley (J.W. North HS)
was third at 42' 8". In the hammer,
Aliimamafitafi (141' 6"), sophomore
Aunjanae Stovall (Lynwood HS),
who went 139' 5" and Butler rounded out the top
four finishers. It was Ashley who came in second
place in the discus with a toss of 141' 2",
while Butler (116' 11"), Lugo (108' 6") and
Aliimatafitafi (106' 6), finished third through
fifth place.
