Jessica
Barfield (Lynwood HS) had a
phenomenal meet on Saturday, as the Cerritos College
women's track and field team defeated three other
schools in a non-conference four-way meet. Barfield
won two events and placed second in three others to
help lead the Falcons to wins over West Los Angeles
College (145.5-115), El Camino College (145.5-74)
and host Moorpark College, 145.5-27.5. Cerritos will
now host the California Relays this weekend,
starting at 9:00 a.m. on Friday and concluding on
Saturday.
Barfield won the
100 meters with a time of 12.34, while her time of
25.45 put her in second place in the 200 meters.
Additionally, Barfield also won the triple jump and
placed second in the long jump. In other running
events, freshman
Marlene
Elizalde (St. Paul HS) won the
1500 meters in a time of 4:47.71, with freshman
Alison Bartsoch (Squalicum (WA) HS)
in second place at 5:04.39. It was Bartsoch who led
the way in the 800 meters with a time of 2:27.09,
good for second place, while Elizalde was right
behind in third place at 2:27.37.
Cerritos pulled
away with their depth in the throwing events, as
they won the shot put, hammer and discus. The
Falcons finished in the top four spots in the
javelin, with freshman
D'Auria
Barker (Centennial HS) coming
in first place, followed by Barfield, sophomore
Rachel Butler (Calvary Chapel HS)
and freshman
Aundrea Stovall (Lynwood HS).
It was the same in the hammer throw, with freshman
Arianna Lugo (Los Altos HS)
winning the event, with freshman
Stephanie Aliimatafitafi (Paramount
HS) in second place, followed by Butler and
sophomore
Whitney
Ashley (J.W. North HS).
Aliimatafitafi won the shot put, while
Ashley finished in second place. Ashley, Butler and
Aliimatafitafi finished in second, third and
fourth place, respectively, in the discus.
Stovall won the
pole vault and 10'0, while freshman
Elizabeth
Sims (La Mirada HS) was second
at 9'0, while Stovall also finished in third place
in the high jump. Sophomore
Sarah Muniz
(Santa Fe HS) captured the 5000 meters with
a quick time of 18:51.46, with sophomore
Lucy
Beuster (Kennedy HS) placed
third in 19:27.65.
