Four different players scored two
goals each to help lead the state's #4-rated Cerritos
College women's water polo team to a convincing 18-1
South Coast Conference victory on Wednesday afternoon
against Rio Hondo College. With the win, their 10th in a
row, the Falcons are now 19-2 on the season and 4-1 in
conference action. They will now look to extend their
school-record winning streak at the Citrus Tournament,
which runs this Friday and Saturday.
Cerritos led 6-1 at the end of the
first quarter and shut out the Roadrunners the remainder
of the game, as freshman goalkeeper
Sarah Kenny
(La Habra HS)
turned away three of the four shots she faced. There
were 14 different goal scorers for Cerritos, with
sophomores
Crystal May
(Pioneer HS),
Hanna Anzai
(Cerritos HS)
and
Berlyn
Sanchez (El
Rancho HS), along with freshman
Janine Boutte
(Downey HS)
all scoring twice. The team's leading scorer, freshman
Jeannette Diaz
(Montebello HS),
with 64 goals, was one of only two players who didn't
score. As a team, the Falcons had 23 steals, with May
and freshman
Grace
Quintana (Montebello
HS) and
Andrea Land
(Downey HS)
all posting three steals. Anzai, Sanchez, sophomores
Christina
Edwards (El
Rancho HS) and
Roxy Cariaga
(Cerritos HS),
as well as freshman
Kimberly Diaz
(Bell Gardens HS)
all had two. |
