The Cerritos College women's water
polo team ran their school-record winning streak to 15
games after posting a 16-3 South Coast Conference
victory over El Camino College on Wednesday afternoon in
the Cerritos pool. With the win, the Falcons, ranked #4
in the state, are now 24-3 on the year and are 5-1 in
conference play. Next Wednesday, the Falcons host
Chaffey College at 4:15 p.m. with the winner securing
second place in the conference.
Just five days ago, the Falcons
recorded a 19-5 win over El Camino at the Citrus
Tournament and continued their dominance, running out to
a quick 8-1 lead in the first quarter. It was a game in
which the team's leading scorer, freshman
Jeannette Diaz
(Montebello HS),
who has 71 goals on the season, didn't play. Picking up
the scoring for the team was freshman
Ashley Badali
(Gahr HS),
who scored a season-high five goals, while the duo of
freshman
Britney
Hernandez (La
Habra HS) and freshman
Vivian
Aguirre (Downey
HS) each added three goals.
During the first half, sophomore
Barbie Diaz
(Bell Gardens HS)
handed the goalkeeping duties and registered five saves,
while freshman
Sarah Kenny
(La Habra HS)
played the second half and made four stops. Also adding
to the win were sophomore
Christina
Edwards (El
Rancho HS), who had two goals, while
sophomore
Hanna Anzai
(Cerritos HS)
and freshman
Andrea Land
(Downey HS)
both had two steals, with Land also chipping in with two
assists and one goal. |
