The Cerritos College women's water
polo team continued their record-breaking start to the
season, as they registered a 16-9 South Coast Conference
win at home against Mt. San Antonio College on Wednesday
afternoon. The win kept the Falcons, who are ranked #4
in the state, undefeated on the year at 5-0, while they
are 1-0 in SCC play. The team will get a chance to see
the top two-rated teams in the state this weekend
(Riverside and Long Beach City), as they compete in the
Chaffey Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
Against the Mounties (3-3, 0-1),
Cerritos started slow and led only 2-0 at the end of the
first period on goals by freshman
Jeannette Diaz
(Bell Gardens HS).
It was 7-2 by the break, with sophomore
Berlyn
Sanchez (El
Rancho HS) accounting for two goals, while
Diaz added two more, including a goal with just :04
second left. The Falcons were in complete control of the
pace and tempo of the game and had seven different goal
scorers, while the sensational goalkeeping tandem of
sophomore
Barbie Diaz
(Bell Gardens HS)
and freshman
Sarah Kenny
(La Habra HS)
rotated each period.
Jeannette Diaz, who finished with
four goals on the day, capped off the afternoon by
scoring a goal at the buzzer from the middle of the pool
to end the third period. She was joined with four
tallies by freshman
Daisy
Carrillo (Montebello
HS), while Sanchez and freshman
Ashley Badali
(Gahr HS)
each had two goals. |
