08.21.08 - Gold eludes Brenda Villa once again
For Cerritos College assistant women's water polo coach Brenda Villa, her third appearance in the Olympics resulted in another medal. But, for the third time, the medal wasn't gold. Villa, who won a silver medal in 2000 and a bronze medal in 2004, followed that by winning a silver medal on Thursday morning. The American women's water polo team, ranked #1 in the world, were upset by #9-ranked Netherlands, 9-8 in the gold medal match at the Beijing Olympics at Yingdong Natatorium...[more]

08.19.08 - Brenda Villa's goal sends team to gold medal match
Cerritos College assistant women’s water polo coach Brenda Villa scored an amazing goal (her third of the game) with less than a minute left in the fourth period to give the United States women’s water polo team a 9-8 victor over Australia on Tuesday in the semi-finals of the Olympics at Yingdong Natatorium in China. The win by the Americans sends them to the gold medal match against the Netherlands, which will be played August 21 at 3:20 a.m. PST...[more]

11.10.07 - Season comes to an end for Falcons
After winning the first playoff game in school history, the Cerritos College women’s water polo team suffered two straight losses and were eliminated from the Southern California Regional Playoffs. 11.09.07 - Cerritos wins first-ever playoff game
The Cerritos College women's water polo team won their first Southern California Regional Playoff game on Friday afternoon, as they defeated Cuesta College, 8-7 at Golden West College. The Falcons (26-5), seeded #3 in the regionals, will now face the winner of the Long Beach City College-Fullerton College game on Saturday at 9:45 a.m. in a semi-final game. The top three teams advance to the state championships, which will be played at the Central East Aquatics Complex in Fresno next weekend. A win in the semi-final game would propel the team to the Southern California Championship match at 2:45 p.m., while a loss would mean they have to win the third place match at 1:30 p.m. to advance to the state championships.

11.03.07 - Falcons seeded #3 after conference finals
After the first period of their South Coast Conference Tournament championship game, the Cerritos College women’s water polo team held a 3-0 lead over cross town rival Long Beach City College. The winner of the game would clinch the conference championship and earn the #2-seed for the Southern California Regional Playoffs. By the end of the game, the Vikings had been able to shut the Falcons down and recorded an 11-7 win. Cerritos, who won a share of the regular season conference title for the first time in school history, will now be seeded third for the playoffs...[more]

11.01.07 - Cerritos moves into championship game
After earning a share of their first-ever South Coast Conference championship this season, the Cerritos College women’s water polo team will look to repeat as the SCC Tournament champions at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Falcons, ranked #2 in the state, defeated El Camino College (18-4) and Chaffey College (10-8) to advance to the tournament finals against cross town rival Long Beach City. The win over Chaffey avenged a 9-7 conference loss early in the season, while Cerritos (25-4) registered a 9-6 win over LBCC in their only meeting of the season...[more]

10.24.07 - Falcons blow past El Camino, 14-2
Through three quarters of their South Coast Conference women’s water polo game at El Camino College on Wednesday, Cerritos College was posting a shutout. By the end of the game, the Falcons (23-4), who won their 17th game in a row, had recorded a 14-2 win, which also secured them a share of the regular season conference championship. 10.17.07 - Balanced attack leads to conference win
Nine different players scored at least one goal to help lead the Cerritos College women’s water polo team to a 16-5 South Coast Conference road win at Rio Hondo College on Wednesday. The win was the 17th in a row for the Falcons, who are ranked #2 in the state and boast a 22-4 season mark, while they are 5-1 in conference play. 10.15.07 - Win streak and tournament titles stay intact
For the second time in as many years, the Cerritos College women’s water polo team has won consecutive championships at tournaments during the regular season. The Falcons, who successfully defended their titles at the San Diego Mesa and Pasadena City tournaments, made it three in a row this past weekend by sweeping the four teams they faced at the Citrus Tournament. The four more victories increases their winning streak to 16 games and it moves them closer to tying their school record of 19 straight wins they established last season. Cerritos (21-4), ranked #2 in the state, will now resume South Coast Conference play when they travel to Rio Hondo College for a 3:00 p.m. contest...[more]

10.10.07 - Cerritos doubles up on Pasadena City, 16-8
Freshman Stephanie Rosero (Downey HS) scored eight goals to help lead the Cerritos College women’s water polo team to a 16-8 South Coast Conference home win against Pasadena City College on Wednesday afternoon. The win was the 12th in a row for the state’s 2nd-ranked team, as it improved their record to 17-4 on the year and 4-1 in the SCC. As for the Lancers, they dropped to 8-9 on the year and 2-2 in the conference. It was also the Lancers’ seventh consecutive loss. Cerritos will now look for their third straight tournament title in a row when they compete in the Citrus Tournament this weekend...[more]

10.08.07 - Falcons run winning streak to 11 games
For the second week in a row, the Cerritos College women’s water polo team swept through their four opponents at a tournament to claim the championship. Last week, the Falcons (16-4) won the San Diego Mesa Tournament and over the weekend, they were the only team to go 4-0 at the Pasadena City Tournament to claim the title. With the four victories, Cerritos extended their winning streak to 11 games and will look to add on to that when they host Pasadena City College in a South Coast Conference game at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday...[more]

10.03.07 - Cerritos pulls off upset of Long Beach City
In front of a loud and appreciative crowd, the Cerritos College women’s water polo team rose to the occasion against their cross-town rivals, Long Beach City College, and came away with a 9-6 South Coast Conference win at home on Wednesday afternoon. The win by the 7th-ranked Falcons improved their overall record to 12-4, while they are 3-1 in conference play. As for the second-ranked Vikings, they dropped to 13-3 overall and 3-1 in the SCC. Cerritos will now enter the Pasadena City Tournament this weekend after winning the San Diego Mesa Tournament last weekend...[more]

09.29.07 - Water polo wins San Diego Mesa Tournament
For the second year in a row, the Cerritos College women’s water polo team swept through the San Diego Mesa Tournament to win the championship. The Falcons (11-4) posted wins over Southwestern (15-4), Ventura (10-5), Chaffey (12-11) and the host Olympians (8-4) to secure the championship. The win over Chaffey was a big one, as the Panthers beat Cerritos, 9-7 in their South Coast Conference matchup. 09.26.07 - Falcons shut out LA Trade-Tech
Heading into their South Coast Conference match, the Cerritos College women’s water polo team made it a point to focus on executing their set plays against a team that has yet to win a game all season. The end result was a 13-0 win over Los Angeles Trade-Tech College, as the Falcons scored nine goals in the first period and spent the rest of the match working on their passing and defense. The win by the seventh-ranked Falcons (7-4 overall, 2-1 SCC) sets them up for the San Diego Mesa Tournament, which will take place on Friday and Saturday...[more]

09.19.07 - Conference win over Mt. SAC helps rankings
Freshman Stephanie Rosero (Downey HS) scored four goals to help lead the Cerritos College women’s water polo team to an 11-4 South Coast Conference win on Wednesday afternoon. The win by the Falcons (6-4 overall, 1-1 SCC), who are ranked #8 in Southern California, over the #6-ranked Mounties came as a result of some solid defense and timely scoring. 09.17.07 - Cerritos splits four games at Chaffey Tournament
The Cerritos College women’s water polo team had a very successful first day at the Chaffey Tournament over the weekend, winning their two games. On the second day, they were faced with two of the top ranked teams in the state, and suffered two tough losses. 09.12.07 - Falcons suffer loss in conference match
Faced with an early South Coast Conference match, the Cerritos College women’s water polo team dropped an important 9-7 decision to Chaffey College on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons (3-2 overall, 0-1 SCC), who enter the Chaffey Tournament this weekend, will look to rebound from a game of missed opportunities...[more]

09.08.07 - Team opens season with 3-1 record at tournament
With basically a new team in the water this season, the Cerritos College women’s water polo team knew they would have to look for some freshmen to step up and make an immediate impact in games. The main impact at the Cuesta Tournament over the weekend came from freshman Stephanie Rosero (Downey HS), who scored 18 goals over the four games. The Falcons picked up wins in three of those games, as they opened with a 13-4 win over Foothill College, After the team suffered a close 11-10 loss to San Joaquin Delta College, they came back the next day and recorded wins over Santa Ana College (13-12) and Fresno City College (11-4) to go 3-1 in the tournament. The team will now travel to Chaffey College on Wednesday for a 3:00 p.m. game to start the South Coast Conference season...[more}
