Nine different players scored at least
one goal to help lead the Cerritos College women’s water
polo team to a 16-5 South Coast Conference road win at
Rio Hondo College on Wednesday. The win was the 17th
in a row for the Falcons, who are ranked #2 in the state
and boast a 22-4 season mark, while they are 5-1 in
conference play. The team will now travel to El Camino
College on Wednesday for their final conference match of
the season.
In jumping out
to a 4-0 lead in the first period, the Falcons received
two goals from sophomore
Kimberly Diaz
(Bell Gardens HS), while the team held a
commanding 10-2 advantage at halftime. Cerritos was able
to spread out their offensive approach and even shut out
the Roadrunners in the third period. The duo of
sophomore
Sarah Kenny (La Habra HS) and freshman
Hannah
Pawlowski (La Serna HS) combined to make
seven saves in goal, while they also posted five steals
between them.
Freshman
Angela
Chiaromonte (Schurr HS) led the team with
three goals, while Diaz,
Vivian
Aguirre (Downey HS),
Denise Vega
(Montebello HS),
Stephanie
Rosero (Downey HS) and
Hannah Llamas
(Gahr HS) all scored twice for the Falcons. Vega
also dished off three assists, while four players posted
two steals in the win. |
