Through three quarters of their South
Coast Conference women’s water polo game at El Camino
College on Wednesday, Cerritos College was posting a
shutout. By the end of the game, the Falcons (23-4), who
won their 17th game in a row, had recorded a
14-2 win, which also secured them a share of the regular
season conference championship. The state’s
second-ranked team will now compete in the conference
tournament next Thursday and Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College.
Leading the way
for the team was freshman
Stephanie
Rosero (Downey HS), who scored six goals,
while sophomore
Vivian
Aguirre (Downey HS) added four goals. As
Cerritos was racking up a 5-0 lead through the first
period, Rosero and Aguirre were scoring twice, while
Rosero picked up two more in the second period. It was
12-0 before the Warriors finally got on the scoreboard,
with Rosero scoring her final two goals in the fourth
period.
Sophomore
goalkeeper
Sarah Kenny (La Habra HS) was looking for
her second shutout of the year, but had to settle for
the win, as she made two saves. Defensively, freshman
Denise Vega
(Montebello HS) had four steals, while freshman
Hannah
Llamas (Gahr HS) finished with three.
Chipping in on offense with two goals each were
sophomore Ashley Badali (Gahr HS) and
freshman
Janelly Castro (Bell Gardens HS). |
