Faced with an early South Coast
Conference match, the Cerritos College women’s water
polo team dropped an important 9-7 decision to Chaffey
College on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons (3-2
overall, 0-1 SCC), who enter the Chaffey Tournament this
weekend, will look to rebound from a game of missed
opportunities.
With several
high percentage scoring changes presented to them during
the game against the Panthers, the Falcons were turned
away, which included two breakaways that resulted in
missed shots. In the game, the team was 0-for-3 on
man-advantage situations, although the team was in
position to win the game.
Cerritos led 5-3
in the second period after freshmen
Janelly
Castro (Bell Gardens HS) and
Stephanie
Rosero (Downey HS) each scored in the
final minute. Chaffey was able to tie the game at 6-6 by
the end of the third period, with the Falcons limited to
just a Rosero goal. In the fourth period, the Panthers
scored twice to take an 8-6 lead before freshman
Angela
Chairomonte (Schurr HS) got the team to
within 8-7 with 4:15 left. Chaffey scored again with
2:45 left and held on for the win.
Rosero and
freshman
Denise Vega (Montebello HS) each scored
three times for the Falcons, while the trio of Vega,
Rosero and Chiaromonte each recorded two steals.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Sarah Kenny
(La Habra HS) played three of the four periods and had
five saves, while freshman
Hannah
Pawlowski (La Serna HS) picked up one
same in the third period. |
