Freshman
Stephanie
Rosero (Downey HS) scored four goals to
help lead the Cerritos College women’s water polo team
to an 11-4 South Coast Conference win on Wednesday
afternoon. The win by the Falcons (6-4 overall, 1-1
SCC), who are ranked #8 in Southern California, over the
#6-ranked Mounties came as a result of some solid
defense and timely scoring. Cerritos will now host Los
Angeles Trade-Tech in another SCC match at 3:00 p.m.
next Wednesday.
After a close
first period in which Cerritos led, 3-2, they shut down
the Mounties in the second period and went into the half
with a 6-2 advantage. The defense continued to hold
strong, as they team registered 15 steals in the game,
with freshman
Denise Vega
(Montebello HS) leading the team with four
steals. Sophomore
Vivian
Aguirre (Downey HS) and Rosero each
finished with three steals.
Sophomore
Sarah Kenny
(La Habra HS) was strong in goal, as she made
four saves and recorded one steal, while the offense
also received a boost from Aguirre, who also added two
goals. Five other players scored one goal each for the
Falcons. |
