11.15.08 - Loss to Long Beach forces must-win
situation
If the Cerritos College women's water
polo team misses out on advancing to the state
championships this year, they can look back on several
opportunities they didn't cash in on in their 8-7 loss
to Long Beach City College during their semi-final game
of the Southern California Regional Playoffs on Saturday
afternoon at Golden West College. Not only did the loss
snap the team's school-record 22-game winning streak, it
dropped them into a must-win situation in the third
place game at 6:00 p.m. against Fullerton College. The
Falcons (27-3) defeated the Hornets, 16-6 in the final
game of the Citrus Tournament a month ago in their only

water polo team moved one away from tying their school
record for most wins in a row with their 18th in a 15-4
South Coast Conference victory at Pasadena City College
on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons (23-3 overall, 5-0
SCC), ranked #2 in the state, won 19 in a row during the
2006 season. They will look to tie that record next
Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. when they host Rio Hondo College

team an undefeated SCC record heading into the
conference tournament and a first round bye...[more]
10.15.08 - Cerritos beats LBCC for
17th straight win
Not only did
their 13-7 victory over cross-town rival Long Beach City
College lock down the South Coast Conference regular
season championship, the Cerritos College women's water
polo team also extended their winning streak to 17 games. Ranked #2 in the state, the Falcons (22-2 overall, 4-0 SCC) now have the inside track at #1 seed entering the conference tournament and a first round bye. The team will now enter the Long Beach City Tournament over the weekend. A conference championship would also be the
second for fourth-year head coach
Sergio Macias,
who won the title in 2006....[more]
10.11.08 - Falcons sweep through
another tourney
For the fourth time this
season, the Cerritos College women's water polo team won
all four games at a tournament after sweeping through
the Citrus Tournament over the weekend. The Falcons

games in a row, while they are closing in on the school

Trade-Tech College on Wednesday for a 4:15 p.m.
match...[more]
10.01.08 - Cerritos has too much
firepower for Mt. SAC
Even though they were playing
without sophomore All-American
Stephanie
Rosero (Downey HS), the Cerritos College
women's water polo team had too much offensive firepower
for visiting Mt. San Antonio College in their South
Coast Conference match on Wednesday afternoon. The end
result was an 11-5 win for the state's #2-ranked Falcons
(13-2), who won their eighth game in a row and improved
to 3-0 in conference play. The team will now compete in
the Pasadena City Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

09.27.08 - Falcons win four times at

For the second time this year,
the Cerritos College women's water polo team defeated
all four opponents to win a tournament. At the start of
the year, the Falcons swept through the Cuesta
Tournament and matched that over the weekend at the San
Diego Mesa Tournament. Cerritos (12-2) recorded wins
over Southwestern College (20-6), Ventura College
(11-8), Grossmont College (17-8) and finished with a
12-8 triumph over the host Olympians. Next up for the
team is a South Coast Conference home game at 4:15 p.m.

09.24.08 - Cerritos posts big
conference win
Last year, the Cerritos
College women's water polo team had a 26-7 record, with
two of those losses coming at the hands of Chaffey
College. In fact, it was Chaffey that ended the Falcon
season last year with a 7-6 decision at the Southern
California Regional Playoffs. Getting their first crack
at Chaffey since that game, Cerritos left their calling
card with a convincing 13-5 South Coast Conference
victory at home on Wednesday. With the win, the Falcons,
ranked #2 in Southern California, improved their record
to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in conference action. The team
will now compete in the San Diego Mesa Tournament over
the weekend...[more]

09.13.08 - Falcons miss out on early
upset
Facing
defending state champion Riverside College in the first
game of the Chaffey Tournament over the weekend gave the
Cerritos College women's water polo team an idea of what
kind of team that have this season. Last week, the
Falcons swept through all four teams at the Cuesta
Tournament. But against the Tigers, Cerritos came within
the final minute of pulling the upset, but suffered a
12-11 loss. The Falcons went on to win two of their
final three games and are now 6-2 on the year. They will
open South Coast Conference play this Wednesday at 4:15
p.m. when they host El Camino College...[more]
09.06.08 - Cerritos wins all four at
the Cuesta Tournament
The Cerritos College women's
water polo team seemed to be in mid-season form in their
first tournament of the year, as they swept through all
four of their opponents to go undefeated at the
Cuesta Tournament. The Falcons (4-0) shutout
Santa Monica College (17-0) and defeated Foothill
College (15-1) the first day and came back to post wins
over San Joaquin Delta College (13-8) and
Cuesta College (18-6). Cerritos will now enter
the
Chaffey Tournament this weekend and get their
first look at their conference rival...[more]
08.21.08 - Gold eludes Brenda Villa
once again
For Cerritos
College assistant women's water polo coach Brenda Villa,
her third appearance in the Olympics resulted in another
medal. But, for the third time, the medal wasn't gold.
Villa, who won a silver medal in 2000 and a bronze medal
in 2004, followed that by winning a silver medal on
Thursday morning. The American women's water polo team,
ranked #1 in the world, were upset by #9-ranked
Netherlands, 9-8 in the gold medal match at the Beijing
Olympics at
Yingdong Natatorium...[more]
