After
winning
their
first
state
championship
in
school
history,
the
Cerritos
College
women's
water
polo
team has
been
showered
with
individual
accolades.
The
Falcons
capped
off
their
season
with
wins in
26 of
their
final 27
games,
including
a
school-record
22-game
winning
streak
and
defeated
Long
Beach
City
College,
11-6 in
the
state
championship
game.
For the
year,
the team
posted a
school-record
31-3
record.
Sophomore
Stephanie
Rosero
(Downey
HS)
was not
only
named
the
South
Coast
Conference
Player
of the
Year for
the
second
year in
a row,
she was
named
the
Southern
California
Most
Valuable
Player.
With
that
honor,
she was
also
named
All-American
for the
second
season
in a
row.
Joining
her on
the
All-American
team
were
freshmen
Natalie
Peng
(Cerritos
HS)
and
Yvonne
Ruvalcaba
(Montebello
HS),
while
freshmen
Adrianna
Rodriguez
(El
Rancho
HS)
and
Karen
Aguirre
(Downey
HS)
were
selected
2nd Team
All-Southern
California.
Rosero
led the
Falcons
with 92
goals
and 32
assists
while
also
posting
37
steals.
For her
career,
Rosero
scored a
school-record
196
goals
and was
second
in the
state
last
season
with 104
goals.
As for
Peng,
she was
third on
the team
with 59
goals
and
added 41
steals,
while
Ruvalcaba
finished
with 31
goals
and led
the team
with 65
steals.
Rodriguez
scored
65
goals,
which
was
second
on the
team, as
were her
60
steals,
with
Aguirre
accounting
for 40
goals
and 23
steals.
All five
players
were
also
named
1st Team
All-South
Coast
Conference,
while
head
coach
Sergio
Macias
was
voted
the
conference's
Coach of
the
Year.
Garnering
2nd Team
All-SCC
recognition
were
sophomores
Denise
Vega
(Montebello
HS)
and
Hannah
Llamas
(Gahr
HS),
while
freshman
goalkeeper
Miranda
Bakke
(Gahr
HS)
was an
honorable
mention
choice.
