On the
strength
of their
two wins
at the
South
Coast
Conference
Championships
over the
weekend,
the
Cerritos
College
women's
water
polo
team was
seeded
#2 for
the
Southern
California
Regional
Playoffs,
which
will be
held
this
weekend
at
Golden
West
College.
The
Falcons
(26-2),
winners
of a
school-record
21 games
in a
row,
defeated
both
Chaffey
College
(16-9)
and then
Long
Beach
City
College
(8-7) in
the
championship
game to
win the
tournament.
Cerritos
will
open the
regional
playoffs
on
Friday
at 5:45
p.m.
against
the

The top
three
teams
from the
regional

advance
to the
state

This
marks
the
second

seeded
as high

Back in
2006,

won the
conference
tournament,
but were
eliminated
in the
first
round of
the
regional
playoffs
by
Golden

Last
year,
the team
won
their
opening

game,
but were
defeated
in their
next two
games
and
missed
the
state
tournament.
In the
win over
Long
Beach
City,
sophomore
All-American
Stephanie
Rosero
(Downey
HS)
had a
hand in
all
eight
goals,
as she
scored
three
times
and
assisted
on the
other
five.
Despite
her
great
effort,
the
Vikings
had a
chance
to send
the game
into
overtime,
but
LBCC's
Adrienne
Taylor
missed
an open
shot in
front of
the net
and the
Falcons
held on
for the
win.
Freshman
goalkeeper
Miranda
Bakke
(Gahr
HS)
posted
seven
saves in
the
victory.
Both
Yvonne
Ruvalcaba
(Montebello
HS)
and
Adriana
Rodriguez
(El
Rancho
HS)
each
scored
twice
for
Cerritos
in the
win.
The
opening
win over
Chaffey
saw
Rosero
score
twice
and
assist
on seven
of the
team's
10 first
half
goals,
as the
Falcons
opened
up a
10-3
lead.
Rosero,
who
finished
with
three
goals
and
seven
assists,
was
joined
by
Ruvalcaba,
Rodriguez,
Sabrina
Boling
(El
Rancho
HS),
Natalie
Peng
(Cerritos
HS)
and
Andrea
Garcia
(Gahr
HS),
who all
scored
twice.
Bakke

eight
saves in
three
quarters
of
action,
while

Perez
(Montebello
HS)
contributed
two
stops in
the
fourth
quarter.
