Cerritos
College
women's
water
polo
team to
an 18-10
win over
Fullerton
College
in the
third
place
game of
the
Southern
California
Regional
Playoffs
at
Golden
West
College
Saturday
night.
With the
win, the
Falcons
(28-3)
advance
to the
state
championships
for the
first
time in
the
program's
history.
The
state
tournament
will be
held
Thursday
through
Saturday
at
Merced
College.
The team
was
dropped
to the
third
place
game
after
they
suffered
an 8-7
loss to
Long
Beach
City
College
earlier
in the
day in
their
semi-final
game.
After
falling
behind
3-2 in
the
first
quarter,
Rosero
found
the back
of the
net
twice,
while
freshman
Adriana
Rodriguez
(El
Rancho
HS)
scored
once to
give the
team a
5-3 lead
they
would
not
relinquish
the rest
of the
game. It
was a
10-5
lead at
halftime,
with
five
different
players
scoring
for the
Falcons
in the
second
quarter.
Freshmen
goalkeepers
Miranda
Bakke
(Gahr
HS)
and
Mandy
Perez
(Montebello
HS)
were
solid in
goal and
combined
for 13
saves
and
three
steals.
The team
also
received
a pair
of
steals
from
four
other
players.
Rodriguez
finished
with
three
goals
and two
steals,
with
freshmen
Sabrina
Boling
(El
Rancho
HS),
Natalie
Peng
(Cerritos
HS)
and
Karen
Aguirre
(Downey
HS)
each
scoring
two
goals.
In
addition
to her
six
goals,
Rosero
also
contributed
three
assists.
