Even
though
they
were
playing
without
sophomore
All-American
Stephanie
Rosero
(Downey
HS),
the
Cerritos
College
women's
water
polo
team
had
too
much
offensive
firepower
for
visiting
Mt.
San
Antonio
College
in
their
South
Coast
Conference
match
on
Wednesday
afternoon.
The
end
result
was
an
11-5
win
for
the
state's
#2-ranked
Falcons
(13-2),
who
won
their
eighth
game
in a
row
and
improved
to
3-0
in
conference
play.
The
team
will
now
compete
in
the
Pasadena
City
Tournament
on
Friday
and
Saturday.
Picking
up
the
scoring
slack
without
Rosero
was
freshman
Adriana
Rodriguez
(El
Rancho
HS),
who
scored
three
times,
including
twice
in
the
fourth
quarter
when
the
Falcons
pulled
away.
Just
as
important
as
her
three
goals,
Rodriguez
also
recorded
five
steals,
while
sophomore
Yvonne
Ruvalcaba
(Montebello
HS)
led
the
team
with
six
steals.
The
Cerritos
defense
was
instrumental
in
jump-starting
their
offense
on
the
day.
Even
through
they
opened
up
an
early
3-0
lead,
the
Falcons
saw
the
Mounties
keep
the
game
close
and
were
within
a
7-4
score
at
halftime.
But
Rodriguez,
along
with
freshmen
Sabrina
Boling
(El
Rancho
HS)
and
Angie
Silva
(Pioneer
HS)
all
scored
to
put
the
game
away.
Silva,
along
with
freshman
Natalie
Peng
(Cerritos
HS)
scored
twice
for
the
Falcons,
while
sophomore
Denise
Vega
(Montebello
HS)
dished
out
two
assists.
Freshmen
goalkeepers
Miranda
Bakke
(Gahr
HS)
and
Mandy
Perez
(Montebello
HS)
combined
to
make
seven
saves.
