With
four
victories
at the
Pasadena
City
Tournament
over the
weekend,
the
Cerritos
College
women's
water
polo
team ran
their
winning
streak
to 12
games
and
moved
their
season
record
to 17-2.
The
second-ranked
Falcons
will now
travel
to Los
Angeles
Trade-Tech
College
on
Wednesday
for a
4:15
p.m.
match.
Cerritos
posted
wins
over
Foothill
College
(12-3)
and
Citrus
College
(14-4)
on the
first
day and
then
followed
with an
11-1 win
over
Cuesta
College
and
finished
the
tournament
off with
a 12-3
victory
over
Orange
Coast
College.
Although
they
surrendered
the
first
goal to
Foothill,
the
Falcons
scored
the next
five
goals of
the game
and
cruised
to the
victory.
Not only
did
seven
different
players
score at
least
one
goal,
the team
recorded
19
steals
to help
them
along
the way.
Sophomore
Yvonne
Ruvalcaba
(Montebello
HS)
led the
team
with
three
goals
and four
steals,
while
the trio
of
sophomore
Angela
Chiaromonte
(Schurr
HS),
along
with
freshmen
Natalie
Peng
(Cerritos
HS)
and
Karen
Aguirre
(Downey
HS)
each
scored
two
goals
and
combined
for four
steals.
In goal,
freshmen
Miranda
Bakke
(Gahr
HS)
and
Mandy
Perez
(Montebello
HS)
combined
to make
six
saves
and
post three
steals.
Cerritos
allowed
Citrus
to score
the
first
goal in
their
game and
held a
slim 3-2
lead
after
the
first
quarter.
However,
after
that
point,
it was
all
Falcons,
as they
scored
seven
times in
the
second
quarter
(three
by
Ruvalcaba)
and took
a 10-4
lead
into
halftime.
Peng and
Aguirre
led the
team
with
four
goals
each,
while
five
other
players
scored
one goal
each.
Ruvalcaba
also
dished
out two
assists
and
added
two
steals,
with
Perez
making
six
saves.
With the
return
of
sophomore
All-American
Stephanie
Rosero
(Downey
HS)
to the
lineup,
Cerritos
opened
up a 9-0
lead in
the
third
quarter
before
finishing
with an
11-1 win
over
Cuesta.
Rosero
led the
team
with
three
goals,
with
Aguirre
and
Ruvalcaba
chipping
in with
two
goals.
Freshman
Andrea
Garcia
(Gahr
HS)
posted
three
steals,
while
sophomore
Hannah
Llamas
(Gahr
HS)
contributed
two
assists.
The
Falcons
closed
out the
tournament
with
freshman
Adriana
Rodriguez
(El
Rancho
HS)
scoring
five
times in
a 12-3
win over
Orange
Coast.
She
scored
twice in
both the
second
and
third
quarters,
as
Cerritos
increased
their
4-2
halftime
lead to
8-2 by
the end
of the
third
quarter.
Peng
chipped
in with
four
goals
and two
steals,
while
Rodriguez
and
Ruvalcaba
each
posted
five
steals.
As a
team,
Cerritos
had 18
steals
in the
match.
