For the
fourth
time
this
season,
the
Cerritos
College
women's
water
polo
team won
all four
games at
a
tournament
after
sweeping
through
the
Citrus
Tournament
over the
weekend.
The
Falcons
(21-2)
are
ranked
#2 in
the
state
and have
now won
16 games
in a
row,
while
they are
closing
in on
the
school
record
of 19
wins in
a row
set in
2006.
Cerritos
will now
resume
South
Coast
Conference
action
and
travel
to Long
Beach
City
College
for a
4:15
game on
Wednesday.
The
Falcons
opened
with a
15-5 win
over
Citrus
College
and
followed
with a
tight
8-6
victory
over
Palomar
College.
On the
second
day, the
team
shut out
Pasadena
City
College,
17-0
before
finishing
with a
16-6 win
over
Fullerton
College.
Sophomore
Stephanie
Rosero
(Downey
HS)
led the
team
with
four
goals in
the win
over
Citrus,
with
nine
different
players
scoring
at least
one
goal.
Freshman
Natalie
Peng
(Cerritos
HS)
accounted
for
three
goals,
as the
team
registered
14
steals
to hold
the Owls
back
each
time
they
tried to
set up
on
offense.
Freshman
goalkeepers
Mandy
Perez
(Montebello
HS)
and
Miranda
Bakke
(Gahr
HS)
combined
for nine
saves.
It was
more of
Rosero
in the
win over
Palomar,
as she
tallied
four
goals,
while
freshman
Adriana
Rodriguez
(El
Rancho
HS)
scored
twice.
Down 2-1
in the
second
quarter,
the
Falcons
scored
four
straight
goals to
take a
5-2 lead
in the
third
quarter,
with
Rosero
scoring
the last
two. The
Comets
tied the
game at
5-5
early in
the
fourth
quarter,
but
sophomore
Yvonne
Ruvalcaba
(Montebello
HS)
gave the
team the
lead for
good
with
4:55
remaining.
Rosero
and
Rodriguez
tacked
on two
more
goals
for an
8-5 lead
and
eventual
win.
Perez
played
the
first
half and
made
three
saves,
while
Bakke
turned
away
four
shots in
the
second
half.
The
shutout
win over
Pasadena
City
allowed
11
different
players
to score
at least
one
goal,
with
Peng
leading
the team
with
three
goals.
Rosero,
along
with
sophomores
Angela
Chiaromonte
(Schurr
HS)
and
Denise
Vega
(Montebello
HS)
each
scoring
twice,
while
freshman
Andrea
Garcia
(Gahr
HS) led
the way
with
five
steals.
Bakke
and
Perez
combined
to post
the
second
shutout
of the
season
and
fifth in
the
program's
history.
Freshman
Angie
Silva
(Pioneer
HS)
scored
three
times in
the win
over the
Hornets,
while
Rosero,
Peng,
Ruvalcaba
and
sophomore
Jackie
Guerrero
(Montebello
HS)
all
scored
twice.
Another
defensive
effort
paced
the
Falcons,
as they
finished
with 14
steals
in a
balanced
effort.
