Last
year,
the
Cerritos
College
women's
water
polo
team had
a 26-7
record,
with two
of those
losses
coming
at the
hands of
Chaffey
College.
In fact,
it was
Chaffey
that
ended
the
Falcon
season
last
year
with a
7-6
decision
at the
Southern
California
Regional
Playoffs.
Getting
their
first
crack at
Chaffey
since
that
game,
Cerritos
left
their
calling
card
with a
convincing
13-5
South
Coast
Conference
victory
at home
on
Wednesday.
With the
win, the
Falcons,
ranked
#2 in
Southern
California,
improved
their
record
to 8-2
overall
and 2-0
in
conference
action.
The team
will now
compete
in the
San
Diego
Mesa
Tournament
over the
weekend.
The
Falcons
made a
statement
early in
the
contest,
taking a
4-0
lead,
with
sophomore
All-American
Stephanie
Rosero
(Downey
HS)
accounting
for two
of the
tallies
after
sophomores
Angela
Chiaromonte
(Schurr
HS)
and
Yvonne
Ruvalcaba
(Montebello
HS)
scored
the
first
two of
the
game.
Cerritos
opened
their
lead to
9-2 by
intermission
and
completely
shut
down the
Panthers.
By the
end of
the
game,
Rosero
had
found
the back
of the
goal six
times
(two in
each of
the
first
three
quarters),
while
freshman
Kristina
Zalewski
(Western
HS)
chipped
in with
two.
Sophomore
Denise
Vega
(Montebello
HS)
led the
team by
dishing
out
three
assists,
with
Ruvalcaba,
Rosero
and
freshman
Adriana
Rodriguez
(El
Rancho
HS)
each
added a
pair.
The
freshman
tandem
of
Miranda
Bakke
(Gahr
HS)
and
Mandy
Perez
(Montebello
HS)
combined
for five
saves,
with
Bakke
playing
the
first
three
quarters.
