Both the
Cerritos
College
men's
and
women's
water
polo
teams
will be
taking
part in
the
Southern
California
Regional
Playoffs,
which
will
begin on
Thursday
at
Pasadena
City
College.
The top
three
teams
from the
playoffs
will
advance
to the
state
championships,
which
will be
played
next
week at
Golden
West
College.
The
Falcon
women's
team,
who won
their
second
straight
South
Coast
Conference
championship,
are
seeded
#2 and
will
receive
a bye in
the
first
round.
Cerritos
(29-1),
winners
of 22
matches
in a
row,
will
face the
winner
of the
Long
Beach
City
College-Ventura
College
match at
3:15
p.m. on
Friday.
The
Falcons
already
have a
6-4
victory
under
their
belt
against
the
Vikings,
while
they
beat the
Pirates
17-4 in
their
only
meeting.
A win in
the
second
round
will
send the
team to
the
semi-finals
against
the
winner
of the
Chaffey
College-Orange
Coast
College
winner
on
Saturday.
Cerritos
is 3-0
against
Chaffey
and 2-0
against
Orange
Coast
this
season.
As for
the men,
they
advanced
to the
championship
match of
the
conference
tournament,
but lost
to rival
Long
Beach
City
College.
The
Falcons
(17-10)
are
seeded
#8 and
will
play
their
first
round
match
against
Mt. San
Antonio
College
at 3:45
p.m. on
Thursday.
Cerritos
has
defeated
the
Mounties
two out
of three
times
this
year and
will
face
top-seeded
Golden
West at
11:30
a.m. on
Friday
if they
win. The
Falcons
defeated
Mt. SAC
in the
conference
semi-finals,
12-11 in
overtime,
but lost
17-9 in
their
only
meeting
with the
Rustlers.
