On the
strength
of their
12-4
South
Coast
Conference
win at
Mt. San
Antonio
College
on
Wednesday
afternoon,
the
Cerritos
College
women's
water
polo
team
improved
to 15-1
overall
and 4-0
in
conference
play.
The
Falcons,
the
defending
state
champions
and
ranked
#2 in
the
state,
will now
compete
in the
Pasadena
City
Tournament
this
weekend.
The
Falcons
got off
to a
quick
start in
the win
over the
Mounties,
as they
opened a
4-0 lead
in the
first
quarter
on goals
by four
different
players.
After
taking a
6-2 lead
into
halftime,
Cerritos
continued
to pull
away,
posting
a 5-1
score in
the
third
quarter
to take
an 11-3
lead and
finished
off Mt.
SAC.
Sophomore
Natalie Peng
(Cerritos
HS),
who
scored
in the
first
three
quarters
of the
game,
led the
team
with
four
goals
and
added
five
steals,
while
the duo
of
freshmen
Raquel Gabayeron
(Cerritos
HS)
and Mehgan Carbajal
(El
Rancho
HS)
both
chipped
in with
a pair
of
goals.
As a
team,
the
Falcons
posted
19
steals,
as
freshman Crystle Casarez
(Montebello
HS)
contributed
three to
go along
with a
pair of
assists,
with
freshman
Sharon Pedregon
(El
Rancho
HS)
adding a
goal,
three
assists
and two
steals.
Sophomore
goalkeeper
Miranda Bakke
(Gahr
HS)
finished
with
five
saves
and
added a
steal.
