The
Cerritos
College
women's
water
polo
team
opened
up an
early
6-0 lead
in their
South
Coast
Conference
match at
El
Camino
College
on
Wednesday
and
never
looked
back.
The
Falcons
went on
to
record a
16-4 win
which
improves
their
season
record
to 9-1
and 2-0
in
conference
play.
Cerritos
will now
travel
to
Chaffey
College
for
another
conference
match
next
Wednesday.
Sophomore
Natalie Peng
(Cerritos
HS),
who led
the team
with
five
goals on
the day,
scored
three of
the
team's
first
five
goals in
opening
up their
early
lead.
Nine
different
players
scored
at least
one goal
for the
Falcons,
with
freshman
Amber
Smith
(Warren
HS)
accounting
for the
final
three
goals in
the game
and four
on the
day.
Defense
accounted
for the
success
of the
offense,
as
Cerritos
registered
17
steals
with
freshman
Mehgan Carbahal
(El
Rancho
HS)
finishing
with
three.
There
were
four
players
who had
a pair
of
steals
and they
included
Peng,
sophomores
Nicole
Tuning
(Los
Altos HS)
and
Yvonne Ruvalcaba
(Montebello
HS)
and
freshman
Rachel Gabayeron
(Cerritos
HS).
After
sophomore
Miranda Bakke
(Gahr
HS)
made
four
saves
doing
her time
in goal,
she gave
way to
freshman
Melissa Cedarholm
(Warren
HS),
who
posted a
pair of
saves
and
added a
steal.
