2009 Women's Water Polo News...

This Week's Sports Schedule

09.23.09 - FALCONS IMPROVE TO 2-0 IN SCC WITH WIN
The Cerritos College women's water polo team opened up an early 6-0 lead in their South Coast Conference match at El Camino College on Wednesday and never looked back. The Falcons went on to record a 16-4 win which improves their season record to 9-1 and 2-0 in conference play. Cerritos will now travel to Chaffey College for another conference match next Wednesday.

Sophomore Natalie Peng (Cerritos HS), who led the team with five goals on the day, scored three of the team's first five goals in opening up their early lead. Nine different players scored at least one goal for the Falcons, with freshman Amber Smith (Warren HS) accounting for the final three goals in the game and four on the day.

Defense accounted for the success of the offense, as Cerritos registered 17 steals with freshman Mehgan Carbahal (El Rancho HS) finishing with three. There were four players who had a pair of steals and they included Peng, sophomores Nicole Tuning (Los Altos HS) and Yvonne Ruvalcaba (Montebello HS) and freshman Rachel Gabayeron (Cerritos HS).

After sophomore Miranda Bakke (Gahr HS) made four saves doing her time in goal, she gave way to freshman Melissa Cedarholm (Warren HS), who posted a pair of saves and added a steal.
