Although
they
never
trailed
in the
match,
the
Cerritos
College
women's
water
polo
team had
their
hands
full
against
Chaffey
College
in a
South
Coast
Conference
road
match on
Wednesday.
The
Falcons,
who led
2-1
after
the
first
quarter
and 4-3
in the
second,
broke
the game
open by
scoring
seven
straight
goals to
post a
13-6
victory.
Cerritos
(10-1
overall,
3-0
SCC),
the
defending
state
champions,
will now
compete
in the
San
Diego
Mesa
Tournament
over the
weekend.
The
seven-goal
rally
started
with a
pair of
goals
from
sophomore
Natalie Peng
(Cerritos
HS),
while
freshman Rachel Gabayeron
(Cerritos
HS)
also
scored
twice
during
the
rally.
Peng,
who
finished
with
three
goals,
was
joined
by
sophomore
Yvonne Ruvalcaba
(Montebello
HS),
who
scored
once in
each of
the
first
three
quarters.
Sophomore
goalkeeper
Miranda Bakke
(Gahr
HS),
who
posted
10 saves
in the
game,
kept the
rally
going
with
several
big
saves,
especially
in the
second
quarter
when the
changing
of the
tide
began.
In
addition
to her
three
goals, Peng
led the
team
with
three
steals,
while Gabayeron
and
freshman
Georgiana
Bray
(Whittier
HS)
each
finished
with a
pair of
goals.
