Over the last five seasons, the Cerritos College women's water polo team has posted at least one shutout, and were close to going the entire 2011 season without recording one. That was until they defeated Los Angeles Trade-Tech College, 17-0 in their final regular season game of the year. The Falcons (22-3) will now compete in the South Coast Conference Tournament on November 3-5 at Mt. San Antonio College.
In the win over LA Trade-Tech (0-10, 0-7), 10 different players scored, while sophomore Stephanie Tuning (Los Altos HS) set a single-game school record with 11 steals. Her total of 80 steals on the year now ranks her third in school history, with the 93 steals recorded by Hanna Anzai in 2005 the school record. As a team, the Falcons had 23 steals, with freshman goalkeeper Sharon Ku (Cerritos HS) posting three to go along with her six saves.
Freshman Yuri Vela (Schurr HS) scored a team-high four goals, with Tuning and freshman Katherine Gabayeron (Cerritos HS), Janine Loera (Paramount HS) and Joselin Castro (Paramount HS) all scoring twice, with Gabayeron and Loera also making a pair of saves.
