11.18.09 - Cerritos secures second place with win

Cerritos secures second place with win over Palomar College.The Cerritos College wrestling team secured second place in the South Coast Conference on Wednesday night with a 26-13 South Coast Conference win over Palomar College. The Falcons (10-5 overall, 4-1 SCC) will now compete in the Fullerton Open at Cal State Fullerton on Saturday before entering the Southern California Regional Championships, which will take place on December 5 at East Los Angeles College.

In winning the match over the Comets, Cerritos was aided by a pair of forfeit wins, while the teams split the four matches that were held. The two big winners for the Falcons were sophomore Caleb Gerl (Calvary Chapel HS) at 184 pounds and freshman Andy Jay (Mesa, AZ HS) at 174 pounds. Gerl, who reached the state championship match at that weight last year, posted a 13-0 win over Chris Herrera and came close on two occasions of winning by a pin. Jay took a 4-0 lead into the third period and came close late in the match of registering a pin, but settled for a 13-3 win over Oren Dramen....[more]

11.14.09 - Pair wins championship at Cerritos Open
A pair of Cerritos College wrestlers won their respective weight classes at the Cerritos Open on Saturday, while another placed second and two more finished in third. The Falcons will now host Palomar College at 7:00 p.m. in their final South Coast Conference match...[more]

11.11.09 - Falcons shut out Victor Valley, 43-0

Cerritos College wrestling team posted a 43-0 South Coast Conference home win over Victor Valley College.Thanks in part to three forfeit wins and a pair of pinfalls, the Cerritos College wrestling team posted a 43-0 South Coast Conference home win over Victor Valley College on Wednesday night. The win improved the Falcons record to 9-5 overall and 3-1 in conference action. The team will now host the Cerritos Open, which will take place on Saturday.

Cerritos saw freshman Clayton Peters (Los Alamitos HS) take only 2:30 to pin Michael Hope at 157 pounds, while freshmen 285-pound Jose Lopez (John Glenn HS) needed just 2:05 to pin Kenny Walker. The Falcons received forfeit wins at 125 pounds, 174 pounds and 197 pounds, while there was a double-forfeit at 184 pounds...[more]

 

11.09.09 - Caleb Gerl wins championship of Mike Clock Open
Sophomore Caleb Gerl (Calvary Chapel HS) defeated all four of his opponents to win the 184-pound championship at the Mike Clock Open at Pacific University (OR) on Sunday. The 12-school tournament consisted of community colleges from the Northwest, as well as Oregon State University. The Falcons also saw freshman 285-pound Jose Lopez (John Glenn HS) advance to the championship match, while freshman Tim McMihelk (Canyon Springs HS) placed third at 197 pounds. Cerritos will now resume South Coast Conference action and host Victory Valley College at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday...[more]

11.04.09 - Cerritos posts 22-16 win over Mt. SAC
On the strength of winning the four lightest weights, along with heavyweight, the Cerritos College wrestling team parlayed that into a 22-16 South Coast Conference win at Mt. San Antonio College on Wednesday night. The victory improved the Falcons record to 8-3 overall, while they are 2-1 in conference action. The team will now take to the road and compete in the Northern Idaho Duals on Friday and then drive to Oregon for Mike Clock Open on Sunday...[more]

10.28.09 - Falcons record four pins over East LA
The Cerritos College wrestling team didn't waste any time in opening up a commanding lead over East Los Angeles College in their South Coast Conference match on Wednesday night. The Falcons opened the match with a pair of pins, followed by a forfeit win to jump out to an 18-0 lead en route to a 37-17 victory. The win improved the team's overall record to 7-3, while they evened their conference mark to 1-1. Cerritos will now travel to Mt. San Antonio College next Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. match...[more]

10.21.09 - Cerritos defeated by Santa Ana

Luis Onofre from Santa Ana College, 6-2.For the second time in the last four days, the Cerritos College wrestling team was defeated by Santa Ana College. At the Southern California Regional Duals this past Saturday, the Dons posted a 16-6 win and followed that up with a 33-6 South Coast Conference win over the Falcons on Wednesday night. With the win, Cerritos dropped to 6-3 overall and 0-1 in the SCC, while Santa Ana is now 9-0 and 1-0. The Falcons will now travel to East Los Angeles College for a 7:00 p.m. conference match next Wednesday.

In the loss, Cerritos only won two of the 10 weights, as sophomore Caleb Gerl (Calvary Chapel HS) won at 184 pounds and freshman Jose Lopez (John Glenn HS) won his match at 285 pounds. For Gerl, he improved to 7-0 at the weight and 18-0 on the year. In his match, he opened with a 4-0 lead in the first period against Luis Onofre, thanks to a takedown and a two-point near fall in the first two minutes. After Onofre posted a reversal in the second period, Gerl held on the rest of the period and scored an escape and wound up collecting another point for riding time to secure the win...[more]



10.10.09 - Five wrestlers finish in top four at West Valley
The Cerritos College wrestling team had five members finish in the top four places at the West Valley Tournament on Saturday, as the team came in third place. The Falcons, who finished with 89 team points, saw sophomore Caleb Gerl (Calvary Chapel HS) win the title at 184 pounds, while freshman 285-pound Jose Lopez (John Glenn HS) advanced to the finals before defaulting in the championship match to take second place. Sophomore Bronson Gerl (Calvary Chapel HS) placed third at 157 pounds, as did 197-pound freshman Tim McMihelk (Canyon Springs HS), while sophomore Matthew Bautista (North Torrance HS) placed fourth at 125 pounds. Cerritos will now compete in the Southern Regional Duals this Saturday at Palomar College...[more]

10.03.09 - Falcons take fourth place at Santa Ana tourney
The Cerritos College wrestling team had one individual champion and two reach the championship match at the Santa Ana Tournament on Saturday. The end result was a fourth place team finish, as the Falcons did not enter any wrestlers in two weight classes. The team will now travel north to the West Valley Tournament this Saturday...[more]

09.26.09 - Cerritos has three champions at Modesto Tournament
Although the Cerritos College wrestling team finished in second place at the Modesto Tournament on Saturday, they did come away with three individual champions, along with three second place finishers. It's the second straight tournament of the year the team came in second place. The Falcons will now compete in the Santa Ana Tournament on Saturday...[more]

09.19.09 - Falcons open season with 2nd place finish
Competing in their first action of the season, the Cerritos College wrestling team finished second at the Mt. San Antonio Duals. The Falcons, who finished fourth at the state championship last year and return three All-Americans, opened with a 34-6 win over Rio Hondo College. They followed that with a 36-9 victory over West Hills College and a 36-7 decision over South Coast Conference opponent East Los Angeles College. In their final match of the duals, Cerritos fell behind 14-0 to conference foe Santa Ana College before dropping a 23-9 decision.
