Greco championship
A pair of former Cerritos College
wrestlers faired very well last week at the University
Greco National Championships, which were held in Akron,
OH. In the 145.5 pound weight division, Marco
Lara, who is now a senior at Northern Michigan
University, won the national championship, while
Brandon Doran, who placed second in the
California Community College State Championships last
year, posted a third place finish in the 264.5 weight
division. As a result, the two will now advance and
compete in the U.S. World Team Trials, which will be
held in Las Vegas, NV on June 9-10. They will both be

win an individual state championship, as he recorded a

California Community Colleges Commission on Athletics

fourth place for wrestling
With three Cerritos College wrestlers
still yet to compete tonight for individual state
championships, the Cerritos College wrestling team will
finish in fourth place at the California Community
Colleges Commission on Athletics Wrestling Championships
at Fresno City College. Fresno City is in the lead
heading into the championship round with 131 team
points, while defending state champion Santa Ana College
and Sierra College are fighting it out for second place,

After the conclusion of the semi-final
matches on Saturday morning, the Cerritos College
wrestling team has advanced three to the championships
at the California Community Colleges Commission on
Athletics Wrestling Championships at Fresno City

semi-finals, but one was defeated, while two others can

after first day of wrestling
After the first day of the California
Community Colleges Commission on Athletics Wrestling
State Championships, host Fresno City College leads with
73.5 points and is the only team to have all 10 of their
wrestlers advance to the second day. The second day
starts with consolation matches at 10:00 a.m., followed
by the medal matches at 12:30 p.m. The day is concluded
with the championship finals, which will start at 6:30

12.02.06 - Wrestling wins Southern
California Championship
The Cerritos College wrestling team had
eight of their 10 wrestlers finish in the top three of
the Southern California Regionals, held on campus in The
Aviary, with the other two placing fourth. The end
result was 158.5 team points and the Southern California
championship, which was one point better than South
Coast Conference rival Santa Ana College, who had 157.5
team points. All 10 wrestlers will advance to the state
championships, which will be held next Friday and
Saturday at Fresno City College. The top six from each
weight classification advanced to the state

11.17.06 - Cerritos pulls out the win
to capture conference title

Don Garriott
helped snap a five-year streak by leading the Falcons to
their first outright South Coast Conference
championships since the 2001 season after his team
defeated Santa Ana, 21-19 on Friday in a match that took
place at Cal State Fullerton. With the win, Cerritos,
ranked #5 in the state, finish the regular season with a
5-0 conference mark, while they are 8-2-1 on the year.
Cerritos did share the conference title with the Dons
back in 2004 when the two teams were unbeaten and tied
each other in their match. The team will now compete in
the Southern California Championships, which will be

11.10.06 - Team takes second place at
San Francisco tourney
As they move closer to the Southern
California Regionals, the Cerritos College wrestling
team is starting to make their move, as they placed
second in the San Francisco State Tournament this past
weekend. Facing mainly teams from Northern California,
the Falcons compiled 40 teams points and finished just
behind Fresno City College, the top-rated team in the
state, with 43 team points. This Friday, the team will
travel to Cal State Fullerton at 2:30 p.m. to square off
against Santa Ana College for the South Coast Conference
championship. Both teams are 4-0 in conference action
and tied in their only other match, the finals of the

11.09.06 - Five forfeit wins account
for easy conference victory
The Cerritos College wrestling team had a
relatively easy time in their South Coast Conference
wrestling match at Victor Valley College on Wednesday
night. The Falcons received five forfeit wins out of the
10 weight classes and went on to post a 39-16 win, which
improves their season record to 8-2-1, while they are
now 4-0 in conference action. Cerritos will now travel
north this weekend to compete in the San Francisco State

11.06.06 - Wrestling takes second
place at Cuesta Tournament
The Cerritos College wrestling team had
one individual champion and three others who reached the
championship match at the 4th Annual Meathead Movers
Invitational, held at Cuesta College this past Saturday.
With the team's individual success, the Falcons placed
second in the tournament with 95 team points and trailed
only Fresno City College, who had 121 team points. South
Coast Conference rivals Santa Ana College (81.50 team
points) and Mt. San Antonio College (41 points) came in
third and fourth place respectively. The Falcons, who
are currently rated fifth in the state, will resume
conference action when they travel to Victor Valley
College for a 7:00 p.m. match on Wednesday...[more]
11.01.06 - Team records 40-12 win over
Mt. San Antonio
Although the final outcome of the match
had already been decided, the 197-pound match between
the Cerritos College and Mt. San Antonio College
wrestling teams was one that left the fans cheering. The
Falcons, ranked fifth in the state, defeated the
Mounties, 40-12 in their South Coast Conference match on
Wednesday to run their season record to 7-2-1, while
they are now 3-0 in the conference. They will now
compete in the Cuesta Tournament on Saturday...[more]
10.20.06 - Tie does the Falcons no
good for second year in a row
For the second year in a row, the
Cerritos College wrestling team came within a point of
competing for the State Dual Meet Championship. Oddly
enough, the same team kept them from advancing both
years, Santa Ana College. After the Falcons disposed of
Palomar College (28-12) and Moorpark College (30-12) at
the Southern California Dual Meet Championships at
Moorpark College on Saturday, they squared off against
the Dons, the defnedong state champion. The two teams
wrestled to a 20-20 tie, but the Dons were awarded the
win because they won more matches than the Falcons
(6-4), which is the first criteria for a tie-breaker.
Last year, Santa Ana was allowed to advance to the
finals after the two teams competed to a 25-25 draw
because Cerritos forfeited two of the matches...[more]
10.18.06 - Cerritos opens conference
with a 39-6 win over East LA
The Cerritos College wrestling team
opened South Coast Conference action at home on
Wednesday night by defeating East Los Angeles College,
39-6 to run their season mark to 3-2, while they are 1-0
in conference play. The Falcons, ranked fifth in the
state, will now compete in the South Team Duals at

10.16.06 - Cerritos takes fourth place
at West Valley Tournament
The Cerritos College wrestling team saw
some of their best performances of the season this past
weekend at the West Valley Tournament, which includes
some of the top teams in the state. The Falcons, who had
one individual champion, two third place finishers, a
fourth place and a sixth place, came in fourth overall
with 89.50 team points, and trailed only Fresno City
College (127.50 team points), Palomar College (90.50)
and Sierra College (89.50). Cerritos will now start
South Coast Conference action on Wednesday night when
they host East Los Angeles College at 7:00 p.m...[more]
10.06.06 - Cerritos gets tough draws
and places 11th at tournament
When the brackets were released for the
Santa Ana Tournament this past week, the Cerritos
College wrestling team saw that they were matched up
with the top ranked opponents in most of the weight
classes. The tough draw resulted in none of the 14
entries placing in the top four, as the Falcons came in
11th place, trailing such South Coast Conference teams
as Santa Ana (2nd Place), Palomar (4th) and Mt. San
Antonio (9th). Cerritos will now travel up north to
compete in the West valley Tournament this weekend...[more]
09.30.06 - Falcons take second place
at Cerritos Tournament
The Cerritos College wrestling team
played host to their annual tournament on Saturday and
came in second place behind South Coast Conference
opponent Santa Ana College, the defending state
champion. The Dons amassed 112.5 team points, while the
Falcons finished with 81 points, with three other
conference teams also competing in the tournament. This
Saturday, the Falcons will travel to Santa Ana to
compete in their tournament before opening up conference

09.18.06 - Wrestling team takes third
place in first meet of the season
The Cerritos College wrestling team
opened their 2006 season with virtually a new team to go
along with a new coaching staff. Taking over as the new
head coach is
Don Garriott,
who comes to the Falcon program from North Torrance
High, but is familiar with the community college system
from his time as an athlete at El Camino College.
Garriott inherits a team that has four returning state
place winners, including 125-pound Jimmy
Valdivia
(Rosemead
HS),
who advanced to the state championship match last season
after winning the Southern California championship. Also
returning are heavyweight
Brandon Doran
(Yucca
Valley HS),
who came in 5th last season and
Andrew Holmes
(San
Jacinto HS),
a 7th place finisher at 133 pounds. Back for his
sophomore season after serving as a red-shirt last year
is
