With three
Cerritos College wrestlers still yet to compete tonight
for individual state championships, the Cerritos College
wrestling team will finish in fourth place at the
California Community Colleges Commission on Athletics
Wrestling Championships at Fresno City College. Fresno
City is in the lead heading into the championship round
with 131 team points, while defending state champion
Santa Ana College and Sierra College are fighting it out
for second place, as they each have 117 team points.
Sophomore 141-pound
Andrew
Holmes (San
Jacinto HS) earned himself All-American
honors after he placed fourth, but lost his bid for
third place after he was defeated by Modesto College's
Jordan Keckler, 11-1. In the match to compete for third
place, Holmes pinned Tyson Knierim of Palomar in 1:47.
Freshman
Tony Ruiz
(Loara HS)
ended his first season with the Falcons with a win, as
he pinned Eric Timson of Bakersfield College in 1:53 to
earn seventh place, as did freshman 165-pound
Jack Porter
(Desert Vista, AZ
HS), who posted a 13-3 win over Tony Moser
of Lassen College.
Louie Audelo
(California HS),
who opened the day as a semi-finalist, dropped three
straight decisions in the day and fell all the way to
sixth place. After his early morning loss, Audelo was
defeated, 12-7 by eventual third place finisher Mike
Leslie of Sierra and then suffered a 4-0 decision to
Steve Urquizo of Fresno City. At 197 pounds, freshman
Al Kinslow
(Santa Monica HS)
fell 8-3 to Joseph Ramirez of Modesto and had to settle
for eighth place.
