The Cerritos College wrestling team played host to their annual tournament on Saturday and came in second place behind South Coast Conference opponent Santa Ana College, the defending state champion. The Dons amassed 112.5 team points, while the Falcons finished with 81 points, with three other conference teams also competing in the tournament. This Saturday, the Falcons will travel to Santa Ana to compete in their tournament before opening up conference action.

Three Falcon wrestlers won their respective weight classes, while three others finished in the top four. At 165 pounds, freshman Jack Porter (Desert Vista, AZ HS) defeated three opponents to win his championship, with freshman Gene Choi (North Torrance HS) needing only two wins to pick up his title at 174 pounds. As for sophomore heavyweight Brandon Doran (Yucca Valley HS), he only needed to defeat three opponents, with two coming by way of pins, to win the title.

Porter, who was seeded second, received a bye in the first round and then started his championship run with a 12-4 victory over Gary Ayon of Santa Ana College, followed by a 17-2 technical fall victory over East Los Angeles College's Michael Salcido. In the finals, Porter posted a 12-8 win over top-seeded Daniel Garay of Mt. San Antonio College. As for Choi, he had two byes before a tough 7-5 win over Rio Hondo College's Eric Sanchez in the semi-finals before a 7-4 victory over Charleton Thayn of Victor Valley College. Doran, the top seed, received a bye in the first round and then won, 8-1 over Miguel Rano of East Los Angeles College. He continued his march with a pin over Alex Arellano of Rio Hondo College in 1:15 and then needed 6:50 to finally pin Tyler Porras of Santa Ana College in the finals.

Joining Doran in the heavyweight division was freshman Chip Baker (Paramount HS), who eventually came in third place. Seeded second, Baker received a bye in the first round before getting upset by Mt. San Antonio's Albert Villafay, 4-0. From that point forward, Baker was unbeatable, as he defeated Rio Hondo's Jess Childress by pin in 1:37, followed by a 3-1 win over Rio Hondo's Fabian Ojeda and a 3-2 win against Arellano to propel him to the third place match. In that match, Baker had his way with East Los Angeles' Miguel Rano and scored a 12-4 victory.

At 133 pounds, freshman Jason Carrillo (Torrance HS) came in third place, as he opened with a 12-10 win over Santa Ana's Gabe Tseng before getting pinned by eventual champion Claudio Seanez of Mt. San Antonio in 3:45. Carrillo rebounded to pin Danny Gutierrez of Santa Ana in 2:45 before a 7-6 win over Tseng for third place. Sophomore Carlos Alaniz (La Mirada HS), who was the top seed at 141 pounds, started off well after his opening round bye with a pin in 30 seconds over Rio Hondo's Herbert Ortiz. After that, Alaniz was defeated, 19-9 by Vlad Kockiev of Moorpark and then came away with a 15-13 win against KC Miles of Mt. San Antonio. In the third place match, Alaniz was then defeated by Rio Hondo's Diego Martinez and finished in fourth place.
