After years of dedicated service, both as

was inducted into the California High School Wrestling

12.08.07 - Freshman comes up short in
championship
Cerritos College freshman
133-pound wrestler
Paul Lyon (Shepherd (MI) HS)
entered his championship match at the California
Community College Athletic Association Wrestling State
Championships knowing that his team has secured second
place in the team scoring. However, he still took the
approach that there was some unfinished business, as he
looked to be the second Falcon wrestler in as many years
to win the state title at his weight classification.
Last year, Carlos Alaniz became the 45th individual
state champion in Falcon history, and Lyon was looking
to be the 46th. But, on his way to winning the title, he
came across Norman Richmond of Sierra College, who
posted a 9-4 win over Lyon, while Richmond went on to be
named the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the
tournament...[more]
12.08.07 - Cerritos looks to hold onto
second place
Heading into the second day of
the California Community College Athletic Association
State Wrestling Championships at Fresno City College,
the Cerritos College wrestling team was having visions
of winning the state title. They had five of their
wrestlers competing in the semi-finals, while eight of
the nine competitors they sent to the state
championships were still alive and would be place
winners. But, after four of the five were defeated in
the semi-finals early in the day, the
Falcons were left wondering if they were going to end up
dropping one or two places in the team standings. But,
with several strong comebacks and two third place
finishers, Cerritos appears to be in strong contention
to maintain their second place in the team standings
heading into the championship round later tonight.
Sierra College, who is sending three wrestlers into the
individual championship matches, has secured the state
championship with 136.0 team points, while the Falcons
are in a solid second place with 103.0 team points and
one wrestler in the championships. Only third place
Lassen College, with 89.0 team points and three in the
finals, can catch Cerritos, but must win all three (four
points
each) and earn at least two bonus points for major
decisions or pin falls to catch the Falcons. The lone
Cerritos wrestler in the finals must also lose for this
to happen...[more]

College wrestling team finished the first day of
the California Community College Athletic Association
Wrestling State Championships at Fresno City College in
second place with 65.5 team points. Trailing only Sierra
College, who has 78 team points and all nine of
their wrestlers in position to be place winners, the
Falcons will have to overcome a huge loss in the second
round by sophomore
Jason
Carrillo (Torrance HS), the top seed from the
South at 125 pounds and state finalist from last year.
The tournament runs through Saturday, with the
Falcons looking to add to their total of 45 individual
state champions, while they have won three team state
championships. Of the eight members on the team that are

the semi-finals, a total that is only beat by Sierra,

conference title last Wednesday with a win over Palomar
College, the Falcons gave several of their starters the
night off, or moved them up a weight in the match
against the Mounties. The end result was a 28-13 win,
which improves their season record to 7-1, while they

11.03.07 - Falcons take third place at
Cuesta Tournament
With the season more than half
over and teams looking toward the Southern California
Regional and State Championships, one of the keys to
success is avoiding unnecessary injuries. For the
Cerritos College wrestling team, the last thing they
want to happen is for one teammate to potentially injure
another while facing each other at a tournament. While
at the Cuesta Tournament on Saturday, the Falcons found
it better to default out of two championship matches
than risk an injury. As a result, the Falcons placed
third at the tournament with 74 team points and trailed
just Sierra College (89.5) and Palomar College, who had
84 points...[more]

highlights win over Palomar
Sophomore 125-pound wrestler
Jason
Carrillo (Torrance HS) is very familiar
with pressure situations. As a freshman, he came on
strong late in the season and advanced all the way to
the finals of the state championship. On Wednesday in a
crucial South Coast Conference match against Palomar
College, the Cerritos College wrestler pulled off
another late surge. Carrillo fought back from a 6-3
