The Cerritos
College wrestling team didn't waste any time in
opening up a commanding lead over East Los Angeles
College in their South Coast Conference match on
Wednesday night. The Falcons opened the match with a
pair of pins, followed by a forfeit win to jump out
to an 18-0 lead en route to a 37-17 victory. The win
improved the team's overall record to 7-3, while
they evened their conference mark to 1-1. Cerritos
will now travel to Mt. San Antonio College next
Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. match.
Getting things
started for the Falcons was freshman 285-pound
Jose Lopez (John Glenn HS),
who needed just 1:49 to pin Nathan Hedrick.
Sophomore
Caleb Gerl
(Calvary Chapel HS) bettered that time by
taking just 45 seconds to pin Frank Gomez in his
197-pound match. The team's lead swelled to 18-0
after freshman
Andy Jay
(Mesa, AZ HS) received a forfeit win at 184
pounds before sophomore
Juan Tec
(Chatsworth HS) recorded a 17-8 win at 174
pounds over Cesar Ponce.
Freshman

Davis (Lassen HS) pinned Addie
San in 6:20 at 165 pounds, while freshman
Jesse
Ponce (Mesa, AZ HS) recorded
the team's fourth pin, as he took just 2:12 to
defeat Andre Carne. Sophomore
Andy Yu
(Cerritos HS) was the other Falcon to win,
as he posted a 10-5 win in his 133-pound match.
