In
addition to serving as the women’s soccer coach, Debbie
Jensen also holds the position of Athletic Coordinator. Her
duties include handling administrative responsibilities in the
athletic department. As the only women’s soccer coach in
school history, Jensen led her first team to the Southern
California Regional Playoffs, as the team set a new record for
most wins in a season (13) and came in third place in the
South Coast Conference. With their success last season, the
Falcons will look to improve on their performance.
Two seasons ago, Jensen was voted as the conference’s
Coach of the Year.
Jensen
came to Cerritos with eight years of high school coaching
experience. She coached at Acadiana High School in Lafayette,
Louisiana and at Corona High School in Corona, California. In
four years at Corona, Jensen posted a 51-26-10 record, in
addition to winning two league championships and reached the
CIF quarterfinals twice. Jensen was also voted the Coach of
the Year for the Mountain View League three times.
A
very good athlete herself, Jensen set several records as a
three-sport athlete at Arcadia High School. As a forward on
the varsity soccer team, she set school records for most goals
in a season and in a career and was their team captain for two
years. She also helped set new records on the varsity track
team in the 400-meters, 400-meter relay and the 1600-meter
relay. In addition, Jensen ran cross-country at Citrus College
for one year and helped her team reach the state finals and
spent one season on the track team.
Jensen
received her Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from
Cal State Fullerton, before earning her Master’s degree in
Health and Physical Education from Louisiana Tech University.
In addition, Jensen has attended numerous clinics and
workshops in an effort to broaden her knowledge regarding
soccer, track and field, weight lifting and fitness. As a
result, she has earned her “D” License, the top license in
the state, from the United States Soccer Federation. Also,
Jensen is a certificated member of the National Strength and
Conditioning Association, which is the governing body of
conditioning and weight lifting in the country. Jensen has
earned many Level II certificates from the United States Track
and Field Association.
In
addition to coaching the women’s soccer team, Jensen teaches
physical fitness and weight training full time at Cerritos
College. She is also an assistant track and field coach at
Vanguard University. |
