Congratulations to Cerritos College’s cheer squad, who took
first prize in at a competition in Las Vegas on Saturday,
March 4.
The team consisted of five men (Kris Bradley, Eric Galvan,
Victor Garcia, Steven Rodriguez, Jose Serrato) and six women
(Lydia Chavez, Lindsay Cox, Irene Hernandez, Elizabeth
Noriega, Lauren Olmos, Vonisha Pledger).
“Our competition team came together in December, while most
teams are established in May or June,” said Rhonda Shelkey,
cheer squad coach.
“Even though it was late in the season, we wanted to start a
small team to prepare us for next year and to bring some
attention to the squad to draw new members in,” she
continued.
“This team had to work very hard to get ready for this
competition, and for a brand new squad, they performed like
veterans, throwing difficult stunts. They practiced several
times a week and spent the rest of the time working, at
school or fundraising since the competitions can be quite
expensive.” |
