Standards Part 1 Worksheet

Find the California Science Content Standards on the Internet for grades K-6. .  Go to the following site:

http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/ss/

Find the content standards for science.  For each grade copy the Physical science standards onto one document.  Delete all of the standards that do not pertain to chemistry.  Put them in one document. Email it to me and bring a copy of it to class on the due date.

Answer the following Questions on the chemistry in the science content standards:

1.      What grade level has the least amount of chemistry content?

2.      What grade level has the most chemistry?

3.      In what grade level(s) would students learn about gases?

What is the standard(s) that applies?

4.      In what grade level(s) would students learn about molecules?

What is the standard(s) that applies?

5.      What is a chemistry standard that you feel prepared to teach already?  Why?

6.      What is a chemistry standard that you do not feel prepared to teach already?  Why?

7.      When you look at the standards, what grade level sounds most interesting to you? Why?

8.      Now read through the standards for biology and earth science.  Give one standard from each of these content areas that overlaps with chemistry.
