Experimental Proposal

Each group needs to prepare one joint proposal with all group names on the title page. The proposal is due ___________(refer to date from instructor). For your experiment to be approved, all methodology and materials must be submitted for approval. Try to ensure proposal is as complete as possible. You will not receive approval until all materials are submitted. Remember to take time in these early planning stages as this will help to ensure that data collection will run smoothly. Your experimental proposal must be typed and in APA style and must include the following:

Title Page

Abstract (written in future tense that describes experiment)

Introduction Section (sums up past relevant literature leading in to your hypothesis)

Clearly stated hypothesis of what is expected

Method Section (must be extremely detailed)

Discussion of expected results

References

Appendices to include Script, Consent and Debriefing form, any materials used.

In your methodology section you must include the following:

What your IV (must be manipulated) and DV are and how they are operationalized

Manipulation check for IV (Please limit to one IV with only 2 levels)

How long the experiment is expected to last (can not exceed 20 minutes from administration of consent from through debriefing)

How many participants will be run at any one time

How many total participants are expected to be run

What kind of design you are using

How you will randomly assign participants to groups

Where you would like to run experiment (i.e., in classroom or in lab room)
