Course
Description:
This course provides an introduction to methods, skills, and techniques
necessary for effective intercultural, cross cultural, and interracial
communication. Course content focuses on the application of theory and research
to intercultural communication. Assignments
and activities involve students in the analysis of different communication
patterns across cultures and the exploration and practice of methods, skills and
techniques for improving intercultural communication.

Goals:
This
course is designed . . .
1. to
increase one’s understanding
of the relationship between culture and
communication.
2. to
provide an intellectual framework that allows description and
understanding
of communication between culturally heterogeneous
individuals.
3. to
explain the role of culture patterns, verbal codes, and nonverbal codes
in
the development of intercultural
interpersonal relationships.
4. to
describe obstacles to competent intercultural communication.
5. to
develop communication skills that improve competence in
intercultural
communication.
Experiential
Learning:
This
is a skills-based, experiential course. Experiential
learning requires active participation in the class.
