Course
Description:
This course is designed to develop student’s communication of ideas and
concepts in various audience settings with emphasis on message organization,
supporting amplifying materials, and analysis of audience diversity.
Prerequisites:
Satisfactory completion of the English
Placement Process or English 52
or equivalent or Speech 60 or
equivalent with a grade of Credit or “C” or higher.
Course
Goals: Upon
completion of this course, students should be able to...

achieve
a greater understanding of various factors which influence
public communication
2. including
speaker-audience analysis, research and evidence, organization,
language,
evidence, and delivery.
3. enhance
one's own public speaking abilities.
4. become a critical consumer of public communication.
5. understand
the function of public speaking in society.
6. develop
and present informative speeches.
7. develop
and present a persuasive speech.
8. develop
and present a commemorative speech.
Experiential
Learning:
This
is a skills-based, experiential course. Experiential
learning requires active participation in the class.
To a large extent, you will get out of the class what you put into it.
