When the 60" and 100" telescopes became operational in the early part of the twentieth century, there was no electrical service on the mountain.  Therefore, the observatory had its own D.C. (direct current) power generator.  Although no longer in use for the instruments, the original D.C. generator shown here is kept operational by volunteer enthusiasts.
