The Caltech astrophysics lab was built in 1932 under the guiding hand of George Ellery Hale and named for Henry M. Robinson, a member of the Institute's Board of Trustees. The observatory shown here was designed for solar observations. |

Pasadena City College is a community college just a few blocks from Caltech. This observatory was opened in 1935 and the main speaker at the dedication ceremonies was Albert Einstein. It currently houses a planetarium, a 20" cassegrain reflector, and smaller instruments. |
Brackett Observatory, Pomona College

The Frank P. Brackett observatory was constructed in 1908. The original building is the Rock House shown in the two right most photographs. Its principle instrument is a 12" telescope used for instruction and research. The first photograph shows a modern addition which houses class rooms, laboratories and a 14" telescope |
