PE 245 Pep Unit

Course Description

This course is designed to develop the student's understanding of the basic fundamentals of Cheerleading, Yell-leading, and Stunt-Team.  These fundamentals will be taught through instruction and practice in cheers, yells, sideline dances, stunts and stunt progressions.  Students will also be taught defense and offense and what sports are supported by Pep Squad.

Course Content

Class will include instruction in the following:                                        

All arm angles

Jumps

Kicks

General Cheers

Voice Projection

Sideline Dances

Stunt Techniques

Sport Defense vs. Offense

Student Responsibilities

Participate in all class activities

Appropriate attire for practice

Attendance of five different sport matches in the Fall Sports

One paper (1-2 pages) on the topic of cheerleading

One paper (1-2 pages) on defense vs. offense

Four assignments

Final Assignment / Exam

Grading Policy

Participation    40 points

Absences    0-3(A)    4-5(B)    6 (C)    7(D)

Skill Improvement    20 points

Game Attendance    100 points(20 each game)

Short Essay Papers    100 points (50 each paper)

Assignments    40 points(10 points each assignment)

PE 137 Song Unit

Course Description

This course is designed to develop the student's understanding of the basic fundamentals of Song leading, Yell-leading and dance performances.  These fundamentals will be taught through instruction and practice in pom routines and pom usage, yells, sideline dances, half-time performances and performance progressions.  Students will also be taught defense and offense and what sports are supported by pep Squad.

Course Content

Class will include instruction in the following:

All arm angles

Jumps

Kicks

General Cheers

Voice Projection

Performance Cheers

Sideline Dances

Half-time Routines

Sport Defense vs. Offense

Student Responsibilities

Participate in all class activities

Appropriate attire for practice

Attendance of five different sport matches in the Fall Sports

One paper (1-2 pages) on the topic of Dance Performance

One paper (1-2 pages) on the future of Song

Four assignments

Final Assignment / Exam

Week Eight: Assignment #2 due Offense / Defense Cheer Creation

Week Nine: Continue with General Cheers, Review all cheers and start Sideline dances

Week Ten: Paper Due / Cheerleading or Dance, Continue with Sideline Dances

Week Eleven: Review

Week Twelve: General Cheer Creation

Week Thirteen: Finish Sideline dances, start half time routines

Week Fourteen: Halftime routine dances and stunt techniques

Week Fifteen: Review

Week Sixteen Review and all game attendances are due. (5)

Week Seventeen Prepare for final
