2007 WMA 100K World Championship
September 8, 2007
Winschoten, Netherlands

Running for the 2007 USATF Masters 100K Team

Do you want to compete in the 2007 World Masters Athletics (WMA) World Championship 100K?  If you are a US masters-age ultrarunner who is interested in competing in the 2007 WMA 100K World Championship, USATF wants you to know about this exciting opportunity for masters ultrarunners to race in a World Championship event.  The 2007 WMA 100K Championship will be held in Winschoten, Netherlands on September 8, 2007.

USATF encourages American masters ultrarunners to compete for world age-group recognition at this venue and to provide a broad US masters presence at this World Championship.  At the last WMA 100K World Championship, held in Argentina in 2005, the USA Masters 100K Team brought home 9 medals including the individual gold in the men’s and women race.  This year the WMA 100K WC race will be held in conjunction with the IAU 100K World Cup, the Dutch National Championship 100K, and the European Championship 100K.  The race is held on the very fast Winschoten course that has been the site of many World and European Championships in the past.

The Masters LDR Committee of USATF endorses the 2007 Masters 100K team and would like to field a team consisting of athletes representing as many age-groups as possible. At WMA championships, including the 100K event, men and women age 35+ compete in the standard 5-year age-groups. There are no qualifying standards for US team members other than masters status, US citizenship, and USATF membership.

As with all WMA events at which USATF fields a team, there is no funding for the Masters 100K team. US Masters ultrarunners who compete in the WMA 100K race are responsible for their own race entry, travel, and lodging expenses.  The logistics of team entry, travel, lodging, and uniforms is coordinated by the Team Leader and Masters Ultrarunning Representative Lorraine Gersitz to ensure a great US team experience for all involved. Team members can also use the resources of the International Masters Athletes Foundation (IMAF) a non-profit organization created to raise funds for masters athletes.

If you are interested in competing for the USATF Masters 100K team in Winschoten, please contact: Lorraine Gersitz, USATF MUT Running Council, Masters LDR Representative.

How IMAF Supports the WMA 100K Team

IMAF is established to assist masters athletes who demonstrate a financial need to participate in their sport in significant ways such as competing at championship events.  IMAF, a charitable corporation whose headquarters are located in Wyoming, was formed to support and promote masters athletics, athletes, and teams, and is a resource for 2007 USATF WMA 100K team members to help fund the expense of traveling to the WMA championships.  IMAF accepts tax exempt donations from contributors who want to support your team and then distributes 100% of those contributions through a voucher to team members who request support from IMAF.  Funds contributed to IMAF for the 2007 USATF WMA 100K Team will be distributed after team members participate in the world cup race.
