Japan World
Championship Cancelled: Venue May Move to Europe
March 17, 2005
WMA President
Torsten Carlius has notified IMAF President Katy Cotton that the
2005 WMA 100 km World Championship scheduled for Lake Saroma, Japan on June 26,
2005 has been cancelled. Carlius announced, "With
very great disappointment I can now inform you that there will not
be any WMA World Championships 100K in Lake Saroma in
June this year. The contract once signed between the LOC (Local
Organizing Committee) and IAU
does very strangely not include the masters (championship) which was agreed upon
between WMA and IAU in April, 2004. I received this information
Wednesday, March 16 from the IAU President who has tried
to persuade the Japanese but unfortunately without success. We will
have a contact with IAU to see if they have any other race
this year."
