USA
100Km Championship Set For Duluth
September 23, 2002
On October 19, 2002, The Edmund Fitzgerald 100Km road race in Duluth, Minnesota will once
again host the USA National 100Km Championship. The last time the championship was held at the Ed Fitz was in 1996.
The race is also the only North American event to have hosted the 100km World Challenge, which
took place along the shore of Lake Superior in October 1990. The event has been the site of some of
the greatest ultra footraces in American Ultrarunning history.
This year's event will also serve as a qualifier for the 2003 National 100Km team that will represent
the United States at next year's 100km World Cup, scheduled for Taiwan in November of 2003. "Any
interested man or woman who feels they would like to make the USA Team should strongly consider
running the event," says Kevin Setnes, Coordinator of the USA National 100km Team Program.
The top three American men and women will earn automatic berths on the USA team, assuming they
meet the minimum qualifying times for that race of
7:35 for men and 8:35 for women.
