Request for Sponsors for The US Masters 100K Team

August 30, 2003

The Opportunity: The USA Track & Field (USATF) Mountain, Ultra, and Trail (MUT) Running Council is fielding a team of masters runners to participate in the 2003 World Masters Athletics (WMA) World Championship 100-kilometer (62 miles) race. This race is a rare opportunity for women age 35 and over and men age 40 and over to compete in a world ultra championship. Not since 1998 has there been a 100K world ultra championship for masters runners. The goal of the 2003 US Masters 100K Team is to:

Compete for individual world age-group recognition at the WMA 100K World Championship

Provide an American presence at this world competition

Race Venue: The WMA 100K World Championship is run at the same time and location as the 2003 IAU (International Association of Ultrarunners) World Cup 100K Under the Patronage of IAAF (International Armature Athletics Federation). The race is in Tainan, Taiwan, China on November 16, 2003. The US National 100K Team will compete against the 100K runners from around the world in the IAU World Cup 100K and the US Masters Team can travel and lodge with the US 100K National Team. Masters runners competing in 5-year age groups compete for Gold, Silver, and Bronze WMA 100K World Championship medals. For info about the race, visit the race website at: http://www.iau.org.tw/100kwc.php.

Runner’s Need: USATF is unable to support masters ultrarunners participating in the 2003 WMA 100K World Championship. The Masters Team, consisting of four men and four women runners, needs sponsorship to assist with entry fees, uniforms, travel, and lodging. The costs for these items are:
