2003
USA 50K Trail Championship on August 23
May
4, 2003
The sixth annual Golden Gate Headlands 50K will be held Saturday, August
23, on coastal trails and fireroads a few miles north of San Francisco.
The race this year, like it did last year, will host the 2003 USA 50K
Trail
Championship (see http://www.usatf.org).
In addition, the race in 2003 is
a part of the Montrail Cup series (see
http://run.montrail.com/index.cfm).
Complimentary entries this year will be limited to the two defending
National Champions (Jeremy Redding and Mary Fagan) but all USATF members
will be eligible for an overall and age-group winners prize fund of
$6,200;
Montrail Cup participants will be eligible for cash prizes provided by
Montrail; and all runners will be eligible for race awards based on
performance and/or random draw.
There also will be a team championship (up to five men or women, first
three finishers score) open to USATF members with a prize of $300 each
to
the winning men's and women's clubs. Tamalpa Runners, the host club,
prides itself on its strong ultrarunning contingent, but last year
received
a scare as it was almost edged out of its anticipated team victory by
two
other teams. It remains to be seen if Tamalpa will retain its claim as
the
strongest ultrarunning club in the nation.
Whether you are an elite, middling, or back-of-the pack runner, or not a
runner at all but a supporter of the sport in any other way; we invite
and
welcome all members of the ultrarunning community to join us August 23
on
Rodeo Beach, on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, to run, help out, or just
hang out. We look forward to a celebration of ultrarunning as well as
one
heck of a race!
