Teva U.S. Mountain Running Team
Members Lead USA to Victory in Italy
August 25, 2003
SUSA, Italy - (August 24, 2003) - For the first
time in world mountain
running competition, Team USA stood on the podium sporting gold medals.
Teva
US Mountain Running Team members Paul Low, Simon Gutierrez and Mark
Werner
finished fifth, sixth and 18th respectively at the 15th International
Challenge Stellina, a 15.2K race with 1500 meters of ascent.
The first two finishers on each team combine their times for the overall
team "score." Team USA edged Italy by just 18 seconds for the men's
title.
Shortly after the victory, Gutierrez said, "We are real happy and feel
as
though this shows that U.S. mountain running is a force to reckon with."
In the women's competition run over a 7.5K course with 750 meters of
elevation gain, Teva US Mountain Running Team member Kelli Lusk of
Manitou
Springs, CO finished 12th. The Italian women swept the top three places
to
handily win the women's team title.
Low, Gutierrez, Werner and Lusk will join the rest of the Teva US
Mountain
Running Team in Alaska next month for the 19th World Mountain Running
Trophy. For more information on the World Trophy visit
