Selecting the 2003 Junior Teva Mountain Running Team

The 2003 Teva U.S. Mountain Running Team will travel to Girdwood, Alaska to compete in the 19th World Mountain Running Trophy Race in September. This year's courses are uphill/downhill (in even-numbered years courses are uphill only). The senior women will run a 7.7Km event on Saturday, September 20 and the senior men will race 11.5Km on Sunday, September 21. The senior women's team includes four athletes and an alternate/manager with the top three finishers scoring for the team.  Six athletes and a manager/alternate represent the men's senior team with the top four finishers scoring. The junior squad (athletes under 20 years of age in the year of competition) runs on Saturday, September 20 with junior men (three minimum/four maximum) running a 7.7Km course (same course as senior women) and junior women (two minimum/three maximum) running 4.8Km. All Teva U.S. Mountain Running Team members must be current USATF members.

2003 Selection Criteria - Juniors

  • Must have posted a 17:30 or better (boys) and 20:00 or better (girls) in a 5Km road or cross country event. (Equivalent times will be considered for distances other than 5Km.)
  • Must have experience running (in training or racing) on uphill-only courses.
  • A letter of recommendation from either a coach, parent, or mentor-runner must accompany the athlete resume.

Resumes (including road, trail, track, and cross country results) will be accepted through July 1, 2003. Team members will be announced by July 15, 2003.

Each Teva U.S. Mountain Running Team Member receives:

  • Official USATF National Team apparel
  • Teva footwear
  • Airline ticket to Anchorage, Alaska or a minimum of $500 - whichever is less
  • Lodging and meals for the 4-night/5-day stay in Girdwood, Alaska
