USATF New England Mountain Running Update Four

September 15, 2003

This past weekend featured one of the few mountain road races held in Maine.
The 7.3 mile Mt. Agamenticus Challenge starts in York Beach, ME and climbs
to the 700' summit of Mt. Agamenticus.  Flat by most mountain running
standards, this race presents it's own challenges and assets.  Climbing 300'
in the first 6.5 miles, most of the course gradually rolls uphill - a nice
road race, right?  The last 400 feet of climb comes in just over a half

This years race was won by Maine standout Bob Winn with the women's race

The worlds best mountain runners will be competing in the World Mountain
Running Trophy in Girdwood, AK this weekend.  New England standouts and
Central Mass Striders Paul Low, Eric Morse, Nikki Kimball and Kelli Lusk
will be competing for the Teva US Mountain Running Team.  Former team
members Richard Bolt and Dave Dunham will be attending as Team Leader and
"Chief Supporter" respectively.  Good luck Team USA!  Tune into the
