African American Music Appreciation Month 2009

African American Music Appreciation month marks the celebration of contributions made by African Americans to American music. The music that African Americans brought with them from Africa influenced the development of newer forms, including slave songs, Negro Spirituals, Dixieland, Jazz, Rap, Hip-hop music and more. African American music also lead to a new expression of
Western European music, with varying rhythms and harmonies.

Learn more by exploring the research guides created for the celebration of African American Music Appreciation Month. Follow the links provided below to the guides and video. Please ask the librarians for further assistance.
