African American Music Appreciation month marks the celebration of
contributions made by African Americans to American music. The music
that African Americans brought with them from Africa influenced the
development of newer forms, including slave songs, Negro Spirituals,
Dixieland, Jazz, Rap, Hip-hop music and more. African American music
also lead to a new expression of Western European music, with varying rhythms and harmonies.
